ChineseDocConverter provides free tools and educational information for working with Chinese writing, documents, Pinyin and character conversion. The site exists because a converter without explanation produces fluent-looking mistakes: the wrong Traditional target, a name that un-merged badly, a PDF that was never text.
The tools are the center of the homepage. Around them are guides so people can choose the right OpenCC option, understand Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and fix common file problems before they upload.
What the tools do
- Document converter: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF and TXT, with formatting kept in the file as far as the format allows
- Text converter: paste Chinese text and convert it in the browser session via the server API
- Chinese to Pinyin: generate Pinyin for text or files
- Pinyin Writer: type tone numbers and get tone marks
Document and text conversion use OpenCC conversion types (Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and related options). Pinyin uses the pinyin-pro library on the server. The Pinyin Writer runs in your browser.
Converted office files are available for a short download window and are then deleted. The site is not a document host. Details are in document privacy.
What the guides are for
The conversion guides explain the difference between Simplified and Traditional Chinese, regional Traditional standards, and the difference between conversion and translation. The document guides explain what each file type can and cannot survive. The Pinyin section is for pronunciation spelling. Chinese writing is historical background so the modern standards are not a black box.
Those articles are written to be used, not to decorate the converter. If a page only repeated the button labels, it would not help you choose Taiwan over Hong Kong.
What this site is not
It is not a human translation service. It does not claim to replace an editor for published books or legal filings. It does not perform OCR on photographs of pages. It does not convert Japanese or Korean as if they were Chinese. See conversion vs translation and how we handle uploaded documents.
If you need a person who reads the target standard, hire one after the automatic pass. The proofreading guide is the checklist we would hand them.
Who it is for
Students, teachers, localization teams, families moving files between regions, and anyone who was told to "translate this into Traditional Chinese" when the language was already Chinese. If that last sentence is your week, start with Simplified vs Traditional and then convert a sample.
